Nearly half a century ago, there were no bagpipe bands in Oklahoma. The nearest was in Chicago and most US bands were on the coasts. Colonel Cliff MacLean Hansen founded our band to bring this inspiring music to the people of Oklahoma. Col. Hansen, the dean of Oklahoma pipers, continued to play regularly with The Highlanders until his death in 2006. Since its initial appearance in 1958, the band has performed for a diverse company of groups and individuals including government officials, foreign dignitaries, local churches, universities, and schools.
